SPEAKERS
Currently living car-free in the transit friendly city of Medellin, Colombia, Derek gained his appreciation for rail transit growing up on the East side of Cleveland riding the Rapid. During his 26 year career as a police officer, he gained renown as a vocal supporter of transit as a much safer mode of travel. Moving to Cincinnati’s Over the Rhine neighborhood in 2010, Derek became a leading advocate for
construction of the Cincinnati Streetcar and was subsequently elected as All Aboard Ohio’s SW Regional Director in 2014 and then as our Vice Chair. In that role, Derek led efforts that won Oxford, Ohio a stop on Amtrak's Cardinal route, helped save Amtrak staffing at Cincinnati Union Terminal and other stations across the country, and has assisted advocates across the globe build support for public transit.
