Temporary Service
Replacing the Capitol Limited: Service from Chicago to Miami across the North of Ohio
Overview: The Amtrak Floridian is a temporary route running from Chicago through Ohio to Washington DC along the Capitol Limited route. It then continues towards Miami on the Amtrak Silver Star route. This route was created in September 2024 to address a reduction in capacity along the Silver Star's route towards NYC which means the train needed to be rerouted, and a lack of serviceable equipment which Amtrak needs to run it's trains. For the time being it offers an opportunity for passengers to travel from Chicago to Miami!
This service visits Chicago, Toledo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, DC, Raleigh, Jacksonville, Miami among other stops. The route is necessary during tunnel construction on the northeast corridor but is only planned to be temporary. For the time being no end data to this adjusted service is known.
In the future an alternative Florida to Miami route has been proposed that travels through Tennesse as part of the FRA's long distance rail study.
