I decided that I must rejoin because Ohio Governor-Elect John Kasich has set a goal to scrap the 3C passenger rail. We need to stand up and tell him that passenger rail is very efficient, more efficient than automobiles and airplanes. Greyhound buses alone won’t do. Kasic sounds like as if he’s saying things like “Take the Greyhound bus over the train!” even though he’s never said that. Buses (Greyhound or Trailways) don’t have the ability to attract passengers that trains have in competition with automobiles and airplanes. Compared to trains, buses are cramped and uncomfortable and lack dining and lounge service and provide no drinking water on board.
Like Jerry, I decided to renew for pretty much the same reasons he mentioned. I would add that we have a big job to educate Ohio citizens, many of whom have never seen a passenger train since Amtrak mostly only crosses Ohio in the dark. I often use information I get from Ken Prendergast to educate people I come in contact with, or occasionally write a letter to the editor.
